FIXED - Few oars currently out of action

Clare Gibbs
This post was updated on .
FIXED
Mens (blue) no.4 oar - repair carried out to lifting layers of wood grain caused by water ingress as a result of worn leather. New leather on (leather is a bit big, so will have to come off again at some point to be trimmed down)

FIXED
Old Juniors (red) no.6 oar - Split. Requires new leather.
Similar split and location (starts under leather and on a join) as the no.4 oar that was recently repaired.
*******Please monitor the rest of the red taped oars for signs of splitting*************

FIXED
Ladies (yellow) no.5 oar - Blade damaged.
Blade repaired. Rubbing down and paint job now required.

Colin has kindly taken the old Juniors (red) no.6 oar to his workshop for the split to be opened up and glued. We hope to work on it this week sometime.

The old  juniors no.6 oar has more than a split along a joint or grain, it has a break across the grain. See following pic.

It has been glued and clamped.

Next stage - Dependant on when the glue goes off significantly, the oar will be brought back to the container. A new leather will then be fitted.

Big thanks to Colin for the use of his workshop and knowledge again.

Lady No5 oar is finished and back ready for use, if you can leave her dry this weekend for a full paint cure then that will be better..
